"Photographing
in heavy rain is just about as difficult as it gets. You continually
have to wipe away rain drops from the camera lens. This takes
at least a third of your time. Monsoon rain is accompanied by
strong winds which continually try to wrestle away the umbrella
that is tightly wedged between head and shoulders. Changing film
is not only a high-risk proposition, but a high-stakes contest
with few winners. Throughout my year-long coverage of the monsoon
world, my strong conviction was that I was involved in the fundamentals
of life." |
