EMILY MORGAN IN HER KITCHEN Pecan Island, Louisiana, 1999 |
FROM "AMERICAN PICTURES" BY JEFF DUNAS On another trip, Laura wanted to spend a week with her family who was vacationing in Florida. It took us a little under three days to make it from Los Angeles. A week later we began photographing in every town on the Gulf of Mexico. I've always been interested in that part of the country and although I'd never been there, I found exactly what I was looking for. On the way we visited our friends the Carter's in Beaumont Texas, my friend and assistant Astor Morgan's grandmother in Pecan Island, Louisiana, an old friend, Nancee Parkinson, in Texas, and numerous others. We spent my 45th birthday in Palacio, Texas and I loved it. While my wife baked my birthday cake in an adjoining trailer (our stove was acting up)I was running up and down the side streets making several of the photographs in this book. The pictures are everywhere, at every time of the day in every town in America. (CONTINUED) |
