INGRID SISCHY, the editor in chief of Interview and a contributing editor to Vanity Fair, was among the first to commission photographic art dealing with the AIDS crisis. Here, Sischy discusses the milestones in the history of AIDS and photography - - and remembers the weekend in July of 1981 when she and her houseguests, Robert Mapplethorpe and Sam Wagstaff, reacted to the first news item about a mysterious new disease.
