Governor George W. Bush, Austin, Texas, 2000 - Governor Bush looked at you the way a boxer does - by not quite looking at you. The first time we met, he asked if I was from Scotland. I answered yes, but told him that my wife was from Seguin, Texas. That surprised him. Before he was elected president, I photographed him holding an antique wooden golf club at the Governor's Mansion. He said his grandfather used to play with wooden clubs. Asked what I had been doing since we last met, I told him I had become an American citizen. He pointed the club at me and said, "I'm asking for your vote." I laughingly said that we'd see how the photo session went that day.
