A photograph taken at the Chamberlain Ranch on the Musselshell River in Montana in 1984. Up until the taking of this photograph I had romanced the West in my work. That ended when I saw this complicated scene. I finally faced the reality of what much of the West was becoming a chaotic mix of cultures. As I took the picture lightning struck in the background adding an exclamation to the scene.
