Water supply is a major problem in Dharavi. The slum is criss-crossed by small bore pipes like these, mostly running above ground, although new underground pipes are being laid in many districts. A housewife may have to make more than ten trips a day to collect water from an unlicensed tap like this (which cost $800 in bribes to install).
