A mosque which was once the scene of a great fight between
militants and the Indian army now sits undisturbed on Srinagar's Dal
Lake in the troubled state of Kashmir Sunday, November 18, 2001 during
the first days of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Kashmir's beauty
is unmatched and once had a thriving tourism industry but because
of the war, it has come to a virtual and complete halt. The war in
Kashmir has been going on since 1989 when militant organizations chose
to fight for secession from India and now the war in Afghanistan has
made the region even more volatile.
