Muslims beg media and Indian Rapid Reaction Force Police
to protect them from a mob of Hindu neighbors that were attacking
them from across a street of Ahmadabad, India March 1, 2002, two days
after a Muslim mob attacked a train, killing 58 people in the Indian
state of Gujarat. Indian troops arrived in India's riot-torn western
state of Gujarat but were unable to quell the religious violence that
has killed hundreds of people in two days, the worst communal bloodshed
in a decade.
