Nguyen Lau. Ten-year-old Lau, paralyzed from the waist down by a mortar fragment, was returned to Vietnam in 1970 after two years of medical treatment in the United States. Larry Burrows found Lau's homecoming - when the boy was no longer able to speak his native language and required attention beyond the capabilities of his family - emblematic of the Vietnam War. "Lau's is not the greatest tragedy in Vietnam. But as one looks at the pictures of this courageous little chap, one has to wonder whether the ultimate agony of this war is not to be seen in his eyes."
