The Kuwaiti Red Crescent delivered humanitarian food aid to the people of the southern Iraqi town Safwan. This area of Iraq is a traditionally predominantly Shiite region, and since the fighting had begun during the war, this region had little fresh water or food. This was one of the first food aid convoys into southern Iraq. This convoy was escorted by US soldiers. In spite of the delivery of the aid, the crowd still chanted frequent slogans in favor Saddam Hussein. |
