An old "Enarc" arc lamp projector, at the
"New Shirin Talkies" cinema,
Mumbai (Bombay), Is still doing daily service. In the Fifties, India’s
Nehruvian socialism banned most imports, so by the Eighties, India’s
cameras and projectors were historical artifacts. Cinema-goers became
accustomed to dim projection, poor focus and quavering sound. Things
are
now changing for the better.
