Jimmy Durante, Portrait on Beach, Delmar, California, 1969
"The Pixyish Jimmy Durante was a perfect subject---he never balked at any of my requests, although there weren't many. Everything he did made a good picture. The story was bi-coastal, California and Washington DC. It was an unforgettable experience to hear his recollections of his career and all of the people he knew along the way including George Gershwin, Eddy Cantor and Bob Hope. He performed in every kind of show business, from burlesque, vaudeville, the Broadway stage, to TV, radio and the movies. I remember, he couldn't remember my name, so he called me "Pal" instead of Bob."
