The relationship between Ronald and Nancy Reagan is one of the great love stories. It was unabashed, genuine, and they didn't care who knew it. The image of them holding hands, standing outside on the Truman balcony, was taken through the window of the Yellow Oval Room on the second floor of the White House. The editors of Time chose not to run it because they thought it was too schmaltzy. "They ARE schmaltzy," I told them, "what the hell's wrong with that?"
