A semi-comatose, injured hostage lies slumped against a bus window following the end of the Chechen-led Moscow Theatre siege. Only later, when reports began to surface about the gas used by special-forces rescuers, did the full significance of this picture become evident. My extensive attempts to find the girl in the photo have been futile. I am still haunted by the tragic conclusion that she did not survive. Oct. 26, 2002.
