I was in Bosnia, on assignment for Time magazine, when fierce fighting broke out between Croatians and the Bosnian army in the old city of Mostar. While I was photographing from an apartment complex that divided the two sides, my guide was shot by a Bosnian sniper. The two Croatian soldiers in the photo gave covering fire so that we could make an escape. We all got out safely and, thankfully, the wounded soldier-guide survived. Spring 1993.
