Taxi, Driver and City, Durban

Converted mini-bus taxis are central to the lives of many millions of South African commuters every day, bringing loads of people into the city center from the suburbs and rural areas. They are highly controversial - with fast and often dangerous driving tactics in an effort to pick up as many loads of passengers as possible, especially at peak commuting times. Overloading, accidents and death are all too common, as are frequent gangland-style shootouts in an effort to control turf and major routes.
