This is a self-portrait made on one of the most amazing days of my career. It was taken April 6, 2003 as troops from Task Force 2-69 Armor, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division from Fort Benning, Georgia, advanced into Northern Baghdad. The intense fighting lasted throughout the day. I was covered in soot from the flames of battle. The original caption sent to The Dallas Morning News read, "NOTE: Captions are not full because the battle is still on and battery power is low." Seven soldiers from Task Force 2-69 were wounded and two were killed on that day.
