A Final Salute. Iraq
A soldier with Task Force 2-69 salutes a fallen comrade at a memorial service in Baghdad for Private Gregory R. Huxley Jr., 19, of Forest Port, N.Y., who was killed in action April 6th when the armored personnel carrier he was riding in was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade. Huxley had just finished basic training five months earlier. Roberts was the squad leader and was riding in the carrier at the time of the incident. It was a tough moment to cover. I didn't want to invade the privacy of their grief. After the service, Huxley's squad came to me, gave me a hug and thanked me for taking the photos so that the young man's family back home could share the moment.
