Paparazzi
Phil Ramey/Ramey Photo Agency
Princess Diana relaxing on a beach on Necker Island in the Caribbean during the peak of her fame when exclusive pictures of her could fetch hundreds of thousands of dollars. On the basis of these kinds of sums photographer Phil Ramey hired a submarine at $16,000 per day to get in close to the shore without being seen. His investment proved to be worthless when he discovered, while submerged at 50 feet, that the submarine, being a nautical research vessel, didn't have a periscope through which he could surreptitiously shoot. He took this picture the old-fashioned way, with a long lens from a surface vessel while being chased by British security personnel.
