Mai Chiem Tiem, 46 years old, from Dong Ha town, lost his hand and had his optic nerves severed when he picked up a pineapple bomb in his paddy field in January l987. He had farmed the land for 10 years without mishap. He found the bomb and threw it to one side. A few days later, when he lifted it up a second time, it exploded.
