Louis Armstrong Airport, New Orleans, La.: Hundreds of elderly evacuees, many critical, some dead, others dying right in front of us, were parked near the luggage conveyor belt as a small staff did their best to triage them - with evacuees arriving at the rate of 900 per hour. Thousands of evacuees arrived at the airport to be put on flights to San Antonio, Texas, on the fifth day following Hurricane Katrina.
