LOOKING OVER MY SHOULDER, TOO
Looking back, there were many missed opportunities. They usually involved leaving too early from a scene in my rush to find the next moment. I wish I had spent the night at the I-10 cloverleaf. I wish I had stayed longer at the Convention Center. I wish I had followed these evacuees through their ordeal at Armstrong Airport.
Eric Gay of AP gave me good advice as we compared notes weeks later. He said that you can't be everywhere. Be content to photograph the things that are available to you. Do what you can do and remember you're working as a team.
