Blackout at The New York Times -- On July 13, 1977, a massive blackout left some 9 million New Yorkers without power. That evening, the top editors of The New York Times, including Managing Editor Abe Rosenthal, Seymour Topping and Sydney Schanberg, worked by candlelight on the City Desk in sweltering temperatures to put out the newspaper.
