Latafiya, Iraq, May 19, 2007 [Alpha Co. 2-15, Task Force 2-15, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division] – Medic Sgt. Joshua Delgado of Lompoc, Calif., attends to a wounded comrade who was hit by shrapnel from a detonated land mine or IED. He was conscious and talking and is expected to survive. Sadly, his 22-year-old sergeant wasn't so fortunate; he died instantly in the blast. His body is seen at lower right. The soldiers were on patrol searching for three missing American troops captured several days earlier. The patrol resumed, but another U.S. soldier, a medic, was shot in the forehead by an Iraqi sniper and critically injured.
