In 1969 Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young did an outdoor afternoon concert at Balboa Stadium in San Diego -- it's gone now. It was just a stage at one end of the field, with no dressing rooms or curtain. Hours before the concert the group was up on the stage platform talking to friends and tuning up instruments. Neil Young changed the strings on his Gretsch White Falcon and sat at the grand piano to tune up. I plopped down on the floor in front of him and tried to become invisible as I documented the entire process. This photo, which is called "Neil Young, White Falcon," is one of the favorites in our Morrison Hotel photo galleries.
