The generation gap looms large for many Singaporean families like this mother and daughter at a public phone in Little India. Indian youth are graduating from Southeast Asian universities in higher numbers, while dating--some of it interracial--is becoming more common, often to the chagrin of tradition-bound parents. The vast majority of the some 350,000 Indians in Singapore are descendants of immigrants who arrived during British rule.
