With time on their hands, Indian guest workers on short-stay visas gather by the thousands on Sundays to call home and gossip in Singapore's Little India. Most live in overcrowded hostels and send part of their wages back to families and moneylenders in India. Critics of Singapore's use of semiskilled Indian workers call them an exploited underclass with virtually no rights.
