On April 28, 1975, President Ford and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger realize that there is no other exit from Vietnam except evacuation and withdrawal, after Congress had pulled funding for the war efforts. Just a few hours later, the North Vietnamese Army would shell Tan Son Nhut Air Force Base near Saigon and the evacuation of 7,000 Americans and South Vietnamese from the city would begin.
