Assignments
were long in the 1970s at National Geographic, so long that
one's professional and personal lives merged. I was staying
for months at the Driftwood Lodge, just outside Zion National
Park in Utah. Out one window I could see my assignment beckoning
me in color, while out the front door I could see my new friends
Louise and Candy beside the pool, also beckoning me in black
and white.
