PLATT: This was a group of anarchists, or anti-authoritarians as they like to be called. They were extremely hostile to the media, demanding that we not take their picture. They set their paper dragon on fire in front of Madison Square Garden. I watched them do it. While this is certainly not indicative of the overall peacefulness of the parade, it did happen, and I believe evokes the antipathy and tension that was on the streets that day. I strongly feel that reportage is bearing witness and accurately reporting on what we see. It is not for me to decide that this picture rightly or wrongly depicts the reality of a situation; that would come dangerously close to self censorship.
