Shaima was allegedly shot in the head by a member of her family for behaving too liberally. Shaima, an attractive and outgoing TV announcer in Kabul, produced modern but modest television shows. She did not wear a burka and often did not cover her head at all. At the age of 24 she was also unmarried. It is believed that members of her immediate and removed families did not approve of her employment or her behavior. Others say it was suicide. The case is still pending.
