ST. CLAUDE AVENUE Residents in the Lower Ninth Ward and Chalmette were shocked by how fast the water rose, and were sent scrambling for attics, rooftops, boats or life jackets. By Monday afternoon, St. Claude Avenue was so deep that rescue boaters were ducking underneath the red lights.
