KASHMIR EARTHQUAKE: The bridge over the Neelum River at the village of Patikka, 14 kilometers (9 miles) from the epicenter of a major earthquake. For many people this was their only route to help. After several days of trekking across the mountains with injured family members on their backs, the exhausted survivors did not always manage to cross this final barrier; some fell into the river and drowned.
