While photographing on the set of the final "Star Trek" movie, I decided I wanted to do a portrait of the original cast. As a location I had chosen the main parking lot at Paramount Studios. The lot can be flooded to create an ocean set, with a huge sky background painted on the main building. After wrapping their last scene the cast, in their costumes, ascended a stage I had built. I had set huge strobes to light the cast. As I was doing tests for the shoot, word spread through the studio. By the time the cast appeared the parking lot was filled with hundreds of employees. When I finished the shoot, and called it a 'wrap,' the crowd broke into applause and tears. An era was over.
