Latifiyah, Iraq, May 29, 2007 [Second Platoon, A Battery, Task Force 2-15, Second Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division] – A wounded soldier is evacuated onto a helicopter after suffering serious shrapnel injuries from a land mine or IED that exploded and killed a comrade. Three other soldiers were also injured. They were on patrol in search of three missing American troops captured several days earlier. The patrol resumed with several other groups of U.S. and Iraqi soldiers, but more blood was shed later when another U.S. soldier, a medic, was shot in the forehead by an Iraqi sniper and critically wounded.
