Although
most pundits thought he was unelectable, former actor Ronald
Reagan swept to victory in 1980. He conducted his presidency
as though he were on a movie set, where the star hit his marks
and delivered lines with professional skill. In the movie
industry they say that the difference between and actor and
a star is that an actor makes you believe in the character,
and a star makes you care. I think the American public viewed
Reagan as a star: They really cared about him.
