As the American people fell under Reagan's spell, so did many in the rest of the world. Heads of state welcomed his funny jokes and stories of bygone life in Hollywood.  The French, bemused by an actor turned President, used to call him "Le Cowboy."  

While making a Saturday Radio address from his Santa Barbara ranch, and not realizing his mike was still on, jokingly remarked about the Soviets that "we begin bombing in 5 minutes."
