During the photographing for the book "A Day in the Life of the Soviet Union," a zealous Russian handler was eager to show me all the ways that their system "took care" of their people. Little did he realize that the green glow of the sunlight deprivation treatment would lend to a robot-like mood to the photograph which, for many people, said more about the eeriness of the Soviet system than the positive effect the handler was trying to convey.
