Access to the Presidency |
I got to follow President Clinton behind stage before he made his acceptance speech at the Democratic Convention in Chicago in 1996. I shot as he went over his speech, spoke with aides, and even was shown the set-up of the auditorium. A few feet from the stage, he waited and watched on a monitor the film being shown of his life. The excitement, then the music, then the announcement of his name - The President suddenly took this huge deep breath, and walked past me out onto the stage to roar of the convention hall. I wondered whether I had that moment on film - to me an amazing moment when the President of the United States, after all the practice he had, even HE needed to take that deep breath before facing the crowds.
