RealAudio Introduction to "Keys For Doug"

Dougie Strobel has been blind since birth.  He is attending fourth grade at Damascus (MD) Elementary School.  He is the only blind child in a school filled with sighted children. Doug is provided with the necessary Braille books and materials to maintain his education with his sighted peers.  More than 1,300 blind children in Maryland benefit from this policy of "inclusion" and support from the school system. 

It is a far cry from the days when blind students were routinely forbidden to attend public schools, which generally had no means for accommodating them.
