Personal
mobility is something that most people take for granted. For my parents
and other blind people, their ability to travel by themselves with their
white canes is crucial for their independence. By "mapping the environment"
and by memorizing physical directions, my parents can commute to work
like everyone else.
On the morning subway
ride to work, Gail knits a blanket while other people read. Knitting
is a productive and satisfying hobby of Gail's; dozens of people have
received blankets and sweaters from her as presents.
