DEAD QUIET As the floodwaters settled in, large parts of the city became uninhabitable and the city became a virtual ghost town. The whole place was quiet and still. Bubbles from broken gas lines rippled the water here and there. The birds were gone. Even the rats were eerily missing. The city was dead.
