Beneath a canopy of mahogany trees, Trinidadian Hindus send oil lamps in coconut shells down the Marianne River, giving thanks to Lord Shiva for food, water and shelter in a recently revived celebration called "Ganga Dhara." Other Hindu festivals like Diwali and Holi are national holidays in Trinidad and Tobago, as is Indian Arrivals Day--a celebration that marks the landing of the first Indian indentured laborers in May 1845.
