ANNOUNCING THE FIRST ADVANCED PLATYPUS WORKSHOP

In the years since we held our first Platypus Workshop at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, we have seen the face of journalism and communications undergo a tremendous change.

Most of the things we predicted in those first classes have long since actually transpired. The big televison networks have splintered into hundreds of cable and satellite channels. The small digital camcorders can now be seen on newsfronts around the world. The idea of large crews being fielded is largely a thing of the past.

Now, digital is making its way into the heart of Hollywood. George Lucas used Hi Definition video to make the latest Starwars. 24 fps video cameras are now appearing in low-cost camcorders.

What this all means is that individual video journalists now are poised on the brink of a new creativity across the journalistic and entertainment spectrum.

In the past few years we have received many requests from Platypus Graduates to take a program that would help them to take the next steps.

We have now created such a program, and will be offering it this summer at our new home, The Brooks Institute of Photography in Ventura, Ca. from July 5-13. July 5th is the opening cocktail party, which will be held at teh Ventura campus. The workshop ends at 12 pm on July 13th.

This program is only available to Graduates of Platypus Workshops.

In the one week workshop we will focus on making long-form television and films documentaries. How to use light and audio to maximum benefit. How to block a show. Hands-on with some of the newest tools including High Definition and 24fps. Expert documentary makers will present their work, and discuss the business aspects, including the art of the pitch, the markets, and the budget process.

In our new edit bays, you will learn new tricks with Final Cut Pro, and be taught the optimum methods for compression for the web.

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS JUNE 1,2003. APPLY EARLY TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT.

This workshop is open to either former Platypus Graduates, or to professional television and documentary shooters or producers who have had at least 2 years of experience in the industry.
