The Gellert Bath, Budapest, Hungary: Swimming in mineral water is good for the joints, balances the body and improves muscle tone. European spas emphasize treatments in an atmosphere where beautiful architecture and interior spaces enhance the experience. Dr.Kathryn Konrad, Lukas Baths, Budapest, gave me a copy of her medical study, "Controlled Trial of Balneotherapy in Treatment of Low Back Pain" about the usefulness of mineral water in improving chronic illness. She gave treatments to three groups of 158 outpatients suffering from low back pain. They underwent soaking (balneotherapy), underwater traction bath and massage in the mineral waters. Statistically significant gains were maintained in the reduction of prescription drugs and in pain score reduction in all treated groups.
