The Red Sari, southeastern India, January, 1968
"I lived for a few weks in a small farming village near Madras India. I was there to do an essay on the struggle to grow rice. I made this picture late one evening after spending most of the day in the rice fields. Watching the village women washing their saris was fascinating. It is one of my favorites, although it was never published."
