Abu Dis. Abdullah Badir
stands on top of the wall hoisting his son Jusuf up from the arms of
a helpful passer-by. The little boy suffers from a heart ailment and
his father is taking him to the hospital which is normally five
minutes from this neighborhood. First however he must find a spot
along the wall where he can pass with his son and not be stopped by
the soldiers on the other side. "My family has been living here
for 200 years and now it is as if I was a stranger in my own land!"
he says. He explains that it is not unusual in this context, where
frustration and humiliation are the daily diet of Palestinians living
under this "apartheid" system of the Israelis, that
extremists are able to find recruits to carry out their kamikaze
actions.
