I like this photograph because it is an important moment, but most of all I like it because of the way we made it. Yes - we. Time magazine's four "D's": Dirck Halstead, Diana Walker, David Kennerly, and Dennis Brack. We did work together to cover this president and the presidents before and after for decades. For this particular photograph, I think that Dirck advanced the trip and it was decided (Dirck decided) that I would leap one stop ahead and go to Berlin to get just the right position for this important photograph, shot at the Brandenburg Gate on June 12, 1987.
