Latafiya, Iraq, May 19, 2007 [Alpha Co. 2-15, Task Force 2-15, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division] – Soldiers mourn the death of a comrade less than an hour earlier. Their combat patrol ended tragically as one U.S. soldier was killed and four wounded when a land mine or IED buried along a dirt road detonated beneath them. The patrol resumed with other groups of U.S. and Iraqi soldiers, but an American medic was shot in the forehead and critically injured by an Iraqi sniper at another location during the search.
