The Eagles needed a cover for their first album of exciting California folk rock music. We went to the Joshua Tree desert three hours east of L.A., leaving the Troubadour Club at 2 a.m., arriving and climbing a mountain in the dark. At sunup, slightly bedraggled, we began the photos and then spent the day and the next night around the campfire eating peyote buttons, laughing and producing a lot of spontaneous creative images. Here they are by a large rock. Randy, on the left, doesn't look as happy because he had an ulcer and couldn't take the sacraments.
